What archaeologists found was amazing; a series of burial grounds for a strange race of people. The skeletons were roughly four feet in size, but the most interesting fact was the disproportionately large skulls that accompanied the frail skeletons.
Along with the skeletons, the team also found a set of approximately 716 circular stones, but these were no ordinary stones. These stones predated the pyramids of Egypt, and contained strange writing on them.
The writing wasn't deciphered until 1962 by a Chinese scientist. They suppressed the message, but the scientist who deciphered the text felt it important that the people knew and released it a couple of years later.
The message talks of a people, The Dropa, who crashed landed here and were unable to fix their ship to return home. They were a peaceful people, but were hunted down by a neighboring tribe at the time. They took to the caves and eventually made peace with their neighbors, and it's speculation the decedents are alive in that region today.
So, do The Dropa Stones tell a fiction story or are they a historical account of the truth? Interesting!

I'm actually using this region as part of my setting in one of my WIPs. But alas, I didn't include 4 foot tall aliens.
