Kids = Going Broke!

Indie Bookfest 2014

Ainsley Shay and I will be going to the Indie Bookfest 2014 in August, and looking forward to meeting some fellow bloggers/authors, and one of our favorite cover designers (Najla Qamber Designs). If anyone else is going, please let me know and I'll be on the lookout for you. It's always nice to meet someone in person.

We will also be meeting Hugh Howey this month at one of the local libraries. It's funny that he lives in the same town, yet, I've only ever seen him online, mostly through Facebook. I love his inspiring blog posts, not to mention his books.

On a more personal note...Kids are expensive! They also don't get any cheaper the older they become. This month I've had to dish out money for a prom dress, grad trip, college tuition deposit, and the orientation fee for college (I didn't have one when I went). I haven't even come to the alterations for the dress, the hair for the prom at the end of the month, or the fancy graduation dinner coming up soon.

For some reason, I also end up with more kids then I gave birth to sometimes. I pay the cell phone bill for my daughters best friend, as well as provide food for the neighborhood...or so it feels like most days. I'm the woman living in the shoe with all those kids.

They are worth it, though. They better have one damn good retirement home for me in the future.

Very cool if you meet Hugh Howey - I love the Wool series. Kids are pricey - we lucked out after high school. The boys both chose the Marines and Uncle Sam took care of them for 5 years. Our food bill went to nothing. Happy Blitz Day and keep blogging.

Have a lovely time at the book fest! It sounds wonderful.

As for kids being expensive as they get older...I know. The last of our four is graduating from high school. We paid for fours bouts of college application fees, orientation fees, etc., etc. Why is it that everything seems to cost about $100? (So much for "nickel and diming you to death." Now it's demise by Ben Franklins.)

My mum had a bit of that - paying for her kids' friends stuff. My bff from high school didn't have very supportive parents, so my mum paid for her to go to the doctor and so on. And she was a mum to some kids on our street whose parents were kind of messes.

I don't have kids, and have no idea how I'd fit their expenses into my budget. :P

Kids are expensive but, as you say, they worth it. I regularly feed at least two extra that I didn't give birth to and call me mom. We help them find jobs, helped with orientation and registration fees for college stuff and help with FAFSA stuff--I HATE forms. You do what you do because you love them and because, sometimes, their blood doesn't give two hoots and a holler for them.

I don't have any daughters but I have done the same for my niece and her prom and lord knows I'm on board with helping her with her wedding. Gads Yorik!
